Cabrad castle ruins
The castle Cabrad belongs to the village Cabradsky Vrbovok situated in the south part of Slovakia. Originally was called also Litava as it is close to Litava river.
Before you will go the castle you should definitely check the map. The trip starts behind the village Cabradsky Vrbovok, where the car can be parked on small parking area. Than you follow the old road. On the cross roads go right with the river aside. You will safe time and will not be lost as us J. Do not be surprise that you are going down. When you will cross the rived with the bridge you will ascend soon. When you cross the river you will see Kohary´s chapel. Than you follow to the forest and top of the hill. Altogether it takes about 45 min. to get to the target.
Little bit of history:
With the history of Cabrad castle is connected the Hunt aristocracy. The count Hunt was a close ally with king Stefan I. The mentioned aristocracy Hunt built as well the Bzovik monastery. Another important person related to history of Cabrad castle was matus Cak Trenciansky, who became the owner after conflict with the Hunt aristocracy. After this era many different owners were owners of the castle,m e.g. Jan Jiskra.
Thanks to Italian fortification expert Giulio Ferrari was the castle fortified and widened in year 1585 against the Turkish. The castle has been used up to 1812, when the owner burns it deliberately. The castle is being reconstructed and conserved mostly by group RONDEL.
