On the south side are visible mountains Nizke Tatry, on the north West Tatry – Rohace.
Right next to the dam is situated city Liptovský Mikuláš, which is not famous for nice architecture, but it is center of museums. We can definitely recommend Slovak museum of nature protection and speleologists, lately reconstructed contains very rare bones of cave lions and bears found in Slovakia.
At the shore of Liptovska Mara dam on small hill called Úložisko is outdoor museum of Celtic settlement Havránok. There were more settlements like this in close area, all from Iron Age. In this particular settlement was found very rare Shrine.
