Pieniny national park is smallest park in Slovakia, but the park continues to Poland. The park is best known for the canyon done by Dunajec river through mountains as well as pointed stone hills Seven Monks, Ostra stone, Sokolica and the most famous Tri Koruny (Three Crowns) on Polish side. Nevertheless we can not forget the rare nature, e.g. precious butterfly Jasoň červenooký (Parnassius apollo Linnaeus). We were very lucky and took the proto you can see below. The number on its wing should protect him against the illegal stealing – it has no value for the collectors.
Going down the river in classic wooden boats and local raft drivers has a magic atmosphere. It takes about 2 hours to reach the small harbor for wooden boats in Lesnica. From there you can go back by bus, bike or walk.
Once you are in Pieniny you can not miss hiking on Three Crown hill. Quite easy hiking for 3 and half hours. You will pay some euro on the top for sightseeing, but it is definitely worthy. You will see Tatry mountains, Pieniny, Cerveny Klastor monastery.
Cerveny Klastor monastery
After hiking, bike and river raft is time for culture in Cerveny Klastor monastery. You will see how the monks were living in medieval times. Monastery is quite well preserved with beautiful view on Three Crowns hills. Part of the area is medieval pub with 18th century interior. If you would like to enjoy wellness, no problem. Few meters south are Spa with great cuisine and great wellness.
